While it makes sense that she herself would WANT to delete all of it, she shouldnвЂ™t be able to because of how Caroline IS her and is an essential part of her base code. Now, ValveвЂ™s solution to her problem is to simply have her delete her entire backstory and basically reset her entire character development up to this point. ItвЂ™s as if sheвЂ™s in denial, and thatвЂ™s why she keeps talking about Caroline as a separate person from herself while also calling CarolineвЂ™s voice вЂњMY voice.вЂќ When she begins remembering who she used to be, she then proceeds to have an identity crisis, referring to Caroline in both third person and first person. Then, the scientists likely either suppress her human memories, or she suppresses them herself up until Portal 2. Thus, when she wakes up as GLaDOS, she has become very bitter and angry about the betrayal, and instantly tries to kill her treacherous employees who made her their computer slave so that she can have the facility that rightfully belongs to her. But then, one day, karma hit her and she was betrayed by Cave and her employees and forced to become GLaDOS against her will. She helped the company perform countless inhumane experiments for science and greatly enjoyed it. She may have been a friendly person, but ultimately, she only gave humane treatment to those she cared about.Д¬aroline was carefree and passionate about science. In fact, she likely enjoyed them given how enthusiastic she was about science. So, clearly, the inhumane experiments didnвЂ™t bother her. These lines make her sound even less moral than Cave! The fact that she had to tell him that no one would miss the astronauts means that he likely was hesitant about the idea of hiding bodies at first. вЂњNo oneвЂ™s going to miss a few astronauts, Mr. ThereвЂ™s also these deleted lines from Caroline that I find VERY telling: Now, if she was a completely moral person who disagreed with the inhumane experiments, why does she look so confident and content in her portrait? If that were the case, shouldnвЂ™t she look overworked, tired, drained, and sad from doing all this against her will? Caroline was with the company since its inception, and stayed with it for decades. SheвЂ™s clearly the one in control here and she likes it that way.ДЄnd then thereвЂ™s the fact that Aperture performed countless inhumane experiments where Test Subjects were regularly maimed or killed. If she was an angel who was all nice and giddy, she would be smiling brightly in this picture. She has a firm, confident expression, with a hint of a smirk, very much like GLaDOSвЂ™s demeanor.

She stands tall and dominant over Cave, who is sitting down. You can infer just how assertive and dominant she was from how she looks in her portrait. While she was energetic and passionate about science, she was also firm, dedicated, and liked to stay focused and on task: What was her personality like?В Well, we can actually derive quite a bit about her personality from the few clues we get about her.ДЇirst off, she was upbeat and enthusiastic about science:Д¬ave: вЂњ So: Who is ready to make some science?вЂќ GLaDOS describes CarolineвЂ™s voice as вЂњMY voiceвЂќ and as a conscience, yet that doesnвЂ™t stop her from fantasizing about torturing and killing Wheatley or tricking him into making the system shock him.В For all intents and purposes, GLaDOS was still herself as PotatOS.

ItвЂ™s interesting because CarolineвЂ™s presence within GLaDOS did not fundamentally change who she was when she was PotatOS. They literally wrote her backstory while fully intending to have her delete it all in the end.

Having her delete Caroline wasnвЂ™t just something that came about plot-wise as the best thing to do for her character. They even state that they always intended to have her delete Caroline in the end. Valve explicitly states that they only gave her the Caroline backstory in order to subdue her and make her nicer to the player. So, in this analysis, IвЂ™m going to break down how I write GLaDOSвЂ™s character and why I write her that way.ДЇirst off, ValveвЂ™s canon is that GLaDOS and Caroline are separate, and that GLaDOS was able to delete her easily with no consequences.

Portal 2 glados wakes up
